Crossing Percherons with working stock horse breeds such as paint and quarter horses results in strong, confident, humble, and eager to please ranch horses. Their large size and surefootedness makes them ideal for pulling heavy loads, and their “gentle giant” demeanors make them popular even as non-work horses. Crosses of this variety generally are larger horses, with strong necks, wide barrels, well-muscled shoulders, and hard hooves. They often have noble faces with small, perky ears and flat or sloped profiles.
