References
Vannsafir is a Mythic Norse Horse. Her name translates as "water sapphire" in Norwegian. Water sapphires, also known as the gemstone iolite, were used by Viking sailors to help pinpoint the sun's position in cloudy weather. Her dam Hrǫnn "Welling Wave" is named after a daughter of Æger and Rán.
