Tuesday, December 9, 2025 10:04 PMHi! Happy to see you here! I hope you'll have fun with OMHPS shows :D
Definitely topic of Live Shows (LS) is really broad and the best advice from both a regular enterant and a host, would be to research in depth the shows you want to enter. Depending on your location, local shows can have really varied classlists, rules and limits, so it's best to focus on one at a time. Read the show packets and rules as much as you need, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask the host - absolute most of us is a friendly bunch and we'll be happy to help! :)
Live Shows can be fun, but also pretty chaotic and tiring experience - most tend to be 6h+ long and packed full with classes, often going a few at the time. A good thing to start is to keep your showstring small, to focus on learning the "show-flow" rather than top placings. You know, like with everything it's best to start with basics so we can aim higher later on :) This way you won't get overwhelmed with trying to keep up with classlist and a huge herd of models at the same time.
A good thing is to also prepare other non-show related things as early as possible - as in, planning the drive, if you need a place to stay etc. Some shows can get to 10h mark even, and counting in a few hour drive - it's a lot for one day only. It's really beneficial to plan out your abilities and options early to not overwhelm yourself later on.
On top of that, prepare as much as you can at home! Dust the ponies really well before packing, safely attach the tags if you can too, pack the documentation in order of usage (as in first horse showing = their reference card on top), make a list with everything you need to pack so you can checklist it before and after the show. You can even make a list with all your ponies and their respective classes so you don't blank on anything during the show itself (been there done that, lol!). The more you can prepare at home = the less you have to do at the show = the better.
If you have any specific questions about LS', don't hesitate to ask and I'll be happy to answer however I can :)
Happy showing!
