where to enter 3D printed models?

Saturday, May 23, 2026 6:43 PMI wonder how to describe and where to enter my 3D printed models.
Classification: Artist Resin? Custom? Other CM Classification?
Material: Artist Resin? Factory Resin? Other?
Maker: I have no idea what to select here.
Size: Scale is 1:16 but I can't select 1:16. Shall I select 1:18?
Thanks for helping me!

Sunday, May 24, 2026 3:12 PMClassification/Material: I think it depends on what it's made of.. thermolastics? Polymer resin? Composite materials?
- if in doubt, I'd go with "Other"
Maker: I believe there is a category for "Independent Artist" ?
Size: for perpsective, Peter Stone "Pebbles" horses are @ 1:15 scale
most CollectA models are 1:18 & up. If your 3D is closest to either of these, I'd choose 1:15 or 1:18
Hope that helps,
Cheers!

Monday, May 25, 2026 4:01 PMI've got some which are micro mini size, 3D printed in grey resin. Two of them are sculpts which started out at a larger scale as conventionally cast artist resins, then the original artist issued these tiny scaled-down versions. The third, was micro mini scale and 3D printed from the start, no larger edition beforehand.
None of them are painted yet so I haven't had to make them OMHPS pages, but I'd been assuming they just count as artist resins too, even though they were printed not cast?
It'll probably be years before I do paint them, so not in any hurry to know how to categorise them on here, but I'm interested to follow the discussion and see what the verdict is, and how this new manufacturing technique slots in to the hobby in the long term.

Tuesday, May 26, 2026 9:44 AMA custom is generally considered a pre-existing (often factory) model that has been customized in some way (repainted, resculpted, etc.). If the base model is not considered an OF, as a 3D print wouldn't be, I would not classify it as a custom.
From what I have seen in photo shows and live shows, if they are still part of an edition through an independent artist, they are considered Artist Resins. Most (but not all) are made of resin, just photopolymer resin like appaloosa mentioned instead of a two-part urethane resin like most cast models are. It's still resin. Some 3D prints are made of plastic filament, though to be honest I rarely see non-resin 3D prints in the hobby, or at least not competing in shows as the quality tends to be low.

Hm, most of the 3D resins I own are not part of an edition. In fact, anyone can buy the file and print as many horses as he/she wants. There will be thousands or more horses in all sizes not just maybe 50 in one size like most artist resins. And most times the artist if unknown - or hidden behind some instagram style name or brand or something like that.

How did I not see the 1:15 category? I'll choose this one.
