Incomplete Shows 4+ months or more

Wednesday, July 22, 2026 2:33 PM

These are the shows that are now over 4 months old (some over a year!) and in limbo ("Judging in progress").
There have been no updates, no notices, no emails, or anything of the sort to indicate the show is progressing.

For Those Who Need It Most
— PAID access (charity show) over 2 years old! (22 December 2024)

Rancho de Alevo Model Horse Rodeo
— free, almost a year old (17 August 2025)

Free Fun Model Horse Show
— free, over 5 months old (2 February 2026)

OMHPS's 5th Birthday Show Spectacular!
— free, over 4 months old (20 March 2026)

Big Breed Bash
— PAID access, 3 months old (22 April 2026)

As an entrant, I find this frustrating.

As far as online photo shows go, the general rule of thumb is to complete judging within a month after the show closes.
I'm not just saying this off the top of my head; —all other online photo shows that I know of, (TOPSA, AMAHA, MHOSS, VCMEC, etc) are judged & completed within a MONTH after closing. This has become the accepted standard across all online model horse show platforms & clubs.

If a show holder is overwhelmed and cannot complete their judging duties (for whatever reason), they could at least ask for help by reaching out and asking for an assistant/or other judge to help. See this POST

This issue has come up before - see also: "Multiple Shows Remain as Not Judged"

If a show holder cannot take responsibility for judging their show in a timely manner (within a month, at the most), then they shouldn't be hosting any shows at all, let alone judging, IMO.

Just sayin'...

While around a year mark is a lot, I agree, I have to play a little devil's advocate for other instances (not even those shows exactly). Like before, I don't exactly agree with the statement that "judged & completed in a month is an accepted standard across all online m-h-s platforms". I've never heard anyone name it a standard except for you, and main difference is the ones you mentioned are mostly clubs or show series - and OMHPS is in big part just private, one-off shows. So until OMHPS website itself sets up any timeline as website's official standard and keeps hosts accountable to it, a month is not an overall standard here.

Most people don't live with this hobby through and through. Even I, a person working from home and spending most of free time on models, won't always manage to keep big show/division under a month or so, even if judging consistently. Lots of stuff can happen and it's not always possible to keep working on something for months even. With health issues and sudden stuff even communication might not be possible. So unless we know for sure what is the reason for absence, it's hard to judge the situation fairly.

Like I stated before, it would be great if there was an option to add update window on the show page - one that the host/judges could fill out themselves and/or automatically show a date when last class was judged (cause maybe for some bigger shows the progress is being made, it's just hard to catch if it goes by one or two classes at the time). I'm sure seeing the update status would clear out a lot of anxiety and questions for everyone.

I agree that it's especially bad if the show was paid and it's over a year, but I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done with it? Maybe if payment was due at the end of judging, and if not paid then enterant's models are DQd? But that would be a lot of work and I'm sure there would be some nasty people refusing to pay if their models don't place well. Maybe for such extreme cases it could be possible to just force-add-judge to finish the show? I can't see any other way of going through with it.

If keeping this month turnaround strictly is this important to you, I think only somewhat "proven" option is to enter shows only by previously proven hosts.

What other options for solving this do you see? It was mentioned on Forum before and didn't change much, so what other options are there actually? Maybe bumping up the price of hosting to hopefully keep some unserious people away? But by doing so, I'm sure there will be even less free shows and new hosts, which also in the end hurts the showing here overall (I know that for example $10+ shows are not an option for many, many users, no matter the prizes)

Also, it would be good to check all shows mentioned before calling them out publicly - Big Breed Bash IS fully judged since 23rd June, it just didn't have the "Conclude Show" button clicked by the host (which doesn't change anything, other than taking it from "Currently In Judging" page).
EDIT: Also, doesn't "For Those Who Need It Most" show's 2 year deadline come *this* December? So it's NOT over 2 years, it's at 1 year and 7 months if I counted correctly. Again, let's check next time before calling out.
