OMHPS profile info for a Mule?
HarecroftHorses
Monday, August 10, 2026 1:51 PMWhen setting up an OMPHS profile for a mule, are we meant to specify what breed the horse half was? Or do they just go as 'Mule' from the list of purebred options, and because all mules are crosses that's implied by default, and we aren't supposed to also pick out donkey and a horse breed for the crossbred info?
I don't want to set her up in a way that'll accidentally exclude her from show classes, like if the show holder's set it to 'pure breeds only' and then I can't enter the mule cos I've filled in her cross breeds, or vice versa where they're required to have the parentage info and I've just gone with ticking plain Mule as if I didn't bother deciding (she's pinto, so I have a breed and colour and full mental image of her imaginary Paint mum, hahah)
She isn't even here yet, so I haven't started making her a profile, but I realised none of the other mules I own are in my showstring here so I've never had to fill in breed info before, and don't know how we're supposed to handle this particular crossing between equines!

Monday, August 10, 2026 7:50 PMI don't think you need to specify the breeds of horse or donkey unless there's something unusual about the mule, like it's gaited or something. Just "mule" is typically fine.

In a competitive class, the more details you provide (i.e. draft-type mule, saddle mule, gaited-type mule, miniature, etc) in the description area, the better it helps the judge to evaluate your entry.

Saturday, August 15, 2026 1:03 PMOh, that's such a good idea - put the extra info I've already thought about, in the description rather than via the breed menus, so it's there for judges to see but without affecting the model's status as purebred/crossbred for fitting class rules. Perfect solution, thank you!
